BUG

1953 Volkswagen Beetle

Memories and stories — without question, the most recognized car in history.  You most likely have stories to tell among the fond memories of years past.  The 'shape' was virtually unchaged for some 60 years.

Simple elegance is not so simple — to create.  Breck Rothage shares with you the ‘essence’ of the famed ‘bug’ — in his own unique and creative style.  Elegantly painting wisps of lines to give the form and painting in only the most iconic and important visual elements and features which make this such a rare classic.  The rest — that is for “you” to imagine …make it personal!

— 1131 cc with 25 horsepower —

The Volkswagen Beetle was the first car to have sold over 20 million units.  Features and improvements were made, but 'the look' remained largely untouched.

Ferdinand Porsche was commissioned to design the "peoples car" and the Volkswagen company was founded in 1937.  Ferdinand Porsche had founded his own design and engineering company in 1931.  The first car to be built under the Porsche name was the '356' — introduced in 1948.

  — This was the first of only 7 imported to Canada in 1953 —

'Bug' has every available option available at the time, including roof rack, fender skirts and semaphores [mechanical turn signals which would flip out from the center post.

This was originally imported to Canada and was in service on Vancouver Island to be used as an estate car [only in summers] for its first 20 years.  From there, it was sold back to the dealer Speedway Motors and was displayed on the showroom floor for most of the next 28 years.

— after 72 years, 55,331 original miles —

This gem of history now finds its home in Southern California with a gentleman has cared for it for some 30 years — very happily and proudly.

Breck "Although there are so many beautiful vintage automobiles, this has got to be the most elegant simplicity of all.  Graceful lines, simplistic design.  No distractions to the elegance of form."
